ISBE – Infrastructure for Systems Biology Europe
A coordination effort to interconnect the best experimental and modeling facilities for Systems Biology
ISBE-IT is the Italian node of the European Research Infrastructure (RI) ISBE, a multidisciplinary RI dedicated to the understanding of complex biological mechanisms for a sustainable development of society.
ISBE-IT is a Joint Research Unit (JRU) signed by CNR, UNIMIB and UNINA (Coordinator) and, recently, by UniCampania. ISBE-IT works on Systems Biology, a new approach that integrates molecular analysis with predictive mathematical models. It is carried out through an experimental/computational iterative path, with the aim of discovering regulatory mechanisms of complex, normal and pathological functions, thus paving the way for more effective sustainable solutions in the bio-industry and biopharmaceuticals. ISBE-IT focuses its interest on metabolomics systems, since metabolism is the integrator of all genetic and environmental signals that modulate cellular activities: in ISBE-IT metabolic profiles are integrated in models, simulations and AI, and are validated through Metabolic Flux Analysis, with applications in Precision medicine and drug repositioning.
UNIMIB was coordinator of the national node in the period 2013-2018, and hosts the metabolomics facility.
