Extracurricular Internship Abroad for Graduates

The University of Milano-Bicocca handles all the procedures relating to the activation of extracurricular internships in public and private organizations located abroad, for graduates who have completed their studies within the preceding 12 months (Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Single-Cycle Master's Degree, Masters, PhD).

The legal regulation of extracurricular internships abroad depends on the country of destination:

• in some countries the extracurricular internship may be unpaid;

• in some countries an entry visa may be required (check with the host institution for any visas you need to present to apply);

• in some countries only curricular internships for students are allowed (check with the host institution if local legislation allows the activation of extracurricular internships for recent graduates).

The activation of an international extracurricular internship involves 3 actors: the Host institution, the Trainee and the University.

The required documents are:

    1. Internship Agreement signed by both the foreign Host institution and the University;
    2. Internship Project which includes the training objectives and activities to be performed during the internship, any salary paid to the trainee and insurance coverage.

    The project must be signed by the foreign Host institution, the Trainee and the University.

Once the future trainee identifies the Host institution for the internship, s/he has to send an email to stage.laureati@unimib.it for require the necessary documentation to activate the internship abroad.

The email should be sent at least 20 days before the expected starting date of the internship abroad.

We inform that, during the internship abroad, the trainee will be covered by a specific insurance policy.

As reguarding the health insurance:

• For EU countries, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway, it is only required to be in possession of the European Health Card;

• For non-EU countries it is necessary for the trainee to take out a private health insurance with any insurance company.

The Job Placement office does not need to be notified of any absences (daily and/or hourly) of the trainee. Such absences must be agreed between the host institution and the trainee.

For the following requests, it’s necessary to send an email to [email protected] (including the company’s tutor in cc) within 48 hours in advance:

transfer: for activities to be performed in a location different from the headquarters indicated in the project;

temporary absence: in case of long illness, accident, pregnancy or company closure;

extension: to extend the duration of the internship;

early termination: in case the internship has to end before the expected date indicated in the project.

The company tutor and the trainee have to wait for the notification of approval from the Staff.
