Professors who retire or whose resignation has been accepted may be given the title of Emeritus Professor, provided they have spent at least 20 years as a full professor. The title of Honorary Professor may be awarded in the event that the person spent at least 15 years as a full professor. Such titles are awarded through royal decree, on the proposal of the Minister, after deliberation from the Faculty or School to which the person in question belonged at the end of their service. Emeritus and Honorary Professors have no particular academic prerogatives.”
