The University of Milano-Bicocca inaugurated today, Tuesday 14 October 2025, the first bike stations in Piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo, during the event “Sustainability on the Move” — an opportunity to take stock of the University’s actions on active mobility and to look ahead to future initiatives.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Marco Orlandi, Rector of Milano-Bicocca; Giovanna Iannantuoni, President of Fondazione Bicocca; Cristiano Nicoletti, Director General of Milano-Bicocca; and Federico Confalonieri, Head of the Sustainable Mobility Unit – Mobility Department of Comune di Milano.
“The new bike stations represent a step forward for sustainable mobility,” said Matteo Colleoni, Delegate for Sustainability at Milano-Bicocca. “They are part of the University’s many initiatives to make the campus greener, more accessible and safer.”
Located in the Piazzale dell’Ateneo Nuovo and in the underground car park, the bike stations allow students and staff to park their bicycles safely, in spaces equipped with changing rooms and repair tools. As new elements of urban furniture, they add to the interventions already carried out or underway in the neighbourhood to promote active mobility among residents, students and workers, and to create a more sustainable and inclusive campus.
At the start of the event, Matteo Colleoni, together with Anna Maria Maggiore, Head of the Infrastructure and Procurement Area, and Marina Serventi, Head of the Sustainability Unit, presented the initiatives already implemented (bike stations, electric shuttle subscriptions, home–work travel surveys) and those promoted by MUSA (pedestrian flow analysis using sensors, pedestrian mobility plan, integrated sustainability actions).
The programme continued with a roundtable discussion titled “Interventions for sustainable mobility in the neighbourhood, the city and the metropolitan area”, featuring: Paola Taglietti (Mobility Department, City of Milan); Franco Sacchi (Director, PIM Study Centre); Luca Tosi (Director, TPL Basin Agency of Milan, Monza and Brianza, Lodi and Pavia); Anita Pirovano (President, Municipality 9 of Milan); Stefano Porro (Future Mobility Manager, Pirelli, and Mobility Manager Coordinator for the Bicocca district); Valeria Lorenzelli (Vice President, FIAB Italia); and Swami Ilardi (Student Representative).
