Today, the Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation awarded twelve study grants to the most deserving students to graduate in the 2021/2022 academic year from the Master’s Degree in Data Science course at the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Established by the University of Milan-Bicocca in 2017 in response to the fast-changing and growing needs of the digital world, the Master’s Degree in Data Science now has a high employment rate, with over 90% of students quickly finding a job, as well as students who receive offers before graduating. The course is also witnessing growing female participation: women now account for more than a third of the total, twice as many as in 2017, the course’s first year of operation.

The percentage of foreign students enrolled in the degree course has also doubled, partly due to the fact that the next degree course will be held entirely in English. the UK, India, Cameroon, Guatemala, Togo, Albania, Hungary, Latvia, Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine, Poland, Sudan, Iran, Pakistan Nigeria, Moldova and Croatia are the countries of origin of the new students who have chosen the University of Milan-Bicocca and its outstanding degree course in Data Science.

The Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation has been actively involved in defining the content of the degree course since its inception and has collaborated in fostering contact between the university and the corporate world, consistent with its ongoing goal of incentivising young people to pursue scientific degrees. In the case of the Master’s Degree in Data Science, this is an important contribution to the digital transformation that is profoundly changing the traditional paradigms of business and constitutes an important opportunity for growth and development for the entire national system.

“The Master’s Degree in Data Science, launched in 2017, was a fortunate brainchild of Milan-Bicocca. Today, we all understand the importance of data analysis in both the private and public sector. We seized on a labour market trend early on and this,” explains Rector Giovanna Iannantuoni, “allows us to train professionals who are ready to offer their skills to companies and the public administration. The importance of this degree course is also evidenced by the growth of its international profile in the past few years. The relationship with major companies from different sectors – from sport to tourism, fashion and e-commerce – is crucial in this process. The study grants awarded by the Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation to deserving students testify to the close bond between education and the labour market.”

“Digital transformation is a fundamental element for companies that want to stay competitive on the market,” emphasises Marco Tronchetti Provera, President of the Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation, “and it needs to be continuously fuelled by skilled professionals capable not only of interpreting events, but also of anticipating them. In this context, Data Science is becoming increasingly important for the labour market, as demonstrated by the high employment rate and the growing international participation in the Master’s Degree in Data Science, which we are proud to support by providing study grants to the 12 most deserving students.”

The winning students were selected by a committee composed of professors Andrea Maurino and Gabriella Pasi from the University of Milan-Bicocca, and Giada Tronchetti Provera and Lucio Pinto, respectively vice-president and director of the Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation.
