Stefania Grotti has been appointed Director General of Fondazione Bicocca, the organisation established this year by Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca with the aim of supporting the University in strengthening and enhancing its activities in advanced education, research and technology transfer, fostering strong connections between academia and industry.
Her appointment was made by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, following a proposal by a selection committee that included the University’s Rector, Giovanna Iannantuoni. Stefania Grotti, whose term will last three years, took office today, 1 September.
“Among the excellent applications received, Dr Grotti was chosen as a high-profile professional with both national and international experience and proven skills and expertise, perfectly in line with the needs, activities and challenges facing the recently established Bicocca Foundation,” stated Rector Giovanna Iannantuoni. “I warmly welcome her and wish her every success in her new role.”
“It is a great honour for me to take on the role of Director General of the Bicocca Foundation, a natural continuation of a professional path dedicated to promoting research and innovation,” explained the new Director General, Stefania Grotti. “I will bring to the role the experience I have gained in national and international contexts to strengthen the Foundation’s position as a bridge between institutions and society, promoting research, innovation, advanced education and public engagement, and generating a tangible impact on local development and opportunities for the community. I am particularly delighted to do so in Milan, my home city, putting to use for the country the skills I have acquired abroad.”

With more than 29 years’ experience in research development and management, Stefania Grotti has held prominent positions at Politecnico di Milano and, more recently, served as Director of Research and Innovation at Sorbonne Université in Paris.
She graduated in Law from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna and has built a career in the coordination of complex, particularly European, projects, developing solid expertise in leadership, negotiation and organisational management. Her professional experience is distinguished by her ability to foster collaborative networks among universities, institutions and businesses, enhancing research and knowledge transfer.
