On 16 and 17 April 2026, the University of Milano-Bicocca will host the Fifth CISEPS Annual Workshop 2026, focused on the theme “Economic inequality, political inclusion, and public finance”. The event will bring together scholars working on the historical and contemporary dimensions of economic inequality, the relationship between political inclusion and institutions, and the role of public finance in redistribution processes.

The programme includes sessions on a wide range of topics, including housing conditions, the energy transition, urban segregation, inequality in the preindustrial period, education, labour and policy, as well as the impact of institutions and social change on redistributive dynamics. The workshop will also feature a keynote speech by Guido Alfani of Bocconi University, titled Economic inequality, political openness and ‘meritocracy’: a historical perspective.

The event will take place in Building U6, rooms 01-A and 01-B. Participation is free, both in person and online, but registration is required. The workshop is organized within the framework of the CARIPLO project “Taxation, Public expenditure, and Economic inequality in preindustrial Venetian Lombardy (1400-1800)”
