
The University of Milano-Bicocca, (Prof. Marina Calloni) - together with Ca’ Foscari Università di Venezia (Prof. Sara De Vido) and Sabanci University (Prof. Zeynep Gülru Goker), in collaboration with the UN.I.RE. network (UNiversità In REte contro la violenza di genere) and OCEAN (Open Council of Europe Academic Networks), is among the organisers of the PhD Academy “Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women – the Istanbul Convention after EU accession”, which will take place at the Venice International University (San Servolo Island, Venice) from 26 to 30 January 2026.
The initiative aims to explore in depth the role of the Istanbul Convention in safeguarding women’s rights and preventing gender-based violence, from an international and interdisciplinary perspective, more than ten years after its entry into force and particularly in light of the European Union’s accession.
Who can apply
The international PhD Academy is open to:
- PhD students,
- Post-doctoral researcher,
- Junior researchers
with a background in Law, Social and Political Philosophy, Social Sciences, Sociology, Gender Studies.
For students from VIU member universities, full fee-waiver scholarships are available.
Additional financial support (partial or full) is also offered to cover international travel costs.
Accommodation during the Academy will be provided free of charge to all admitted participants.
