From rock to pop, from jazz to classical music: the Music Festival returns to the University of Milano-Bicocca. From 27 to 30 May, four days of concerts, performances, and a contest for bands and soloists. Among the highlights is singer-songwriter Vasco Brondi. A rich programme of free events for the university community and the general public. A music festival that starts on campus and embraces the surrounding area.
The Bicocca Music Festival (BMF) returns for its fourth edition, a music event created and promoted by the University of Milano-Bicocca for the academic community and the wider public. Full details and how to take part are available at www.unimib.it/bmf2025.
The Festival will take place from 27 to 30 May, and all events are free to attend. The opening will be on Tuesday 27 May in the University’s Aula Magna (Building U6 “Agorà”, Milan, viale Piero e Alberto Pirelli 22, 9:00 PM) with the performance “S/Concerto”, an original production by the La Fabbrica del Gess collective and the Solisti di Milano Classica. This dreamlike concert-show combines some of the most iconic soundtracks of all time with readings from classic and popular 20th-century literature, leading the audience through an emotional journey with the help of jazz singer Serena Ferrara and actress/reader Debora Serravalle.
On Wednesday 28 May, the University of Milano-Bicocca Orchestra will perform at the “Guido Martinotti” Auditorium (Building U12, Milan, via Vizzola 5, 9:00 PM) with a repertoire including Langsamer Satz for string orchestra by Anton Webern, Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich, and Serenade for Strings in C major by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Don’t miss the performance by the University Guitar Orchestra in the Science Gallery (Milan, piazza della Scienza, floor -1).
On Thursday 29 May (9:00 PM), it will be the turn of the University Choir, performing together with the Corale Polifonica Città Studi and the Coro Polifonico AEnigma in Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor, arranged for choir and organ. The concert will take place in the Church of Gesù Divino Lavoratore (Milan, piazza San Giuseppe 2).
The closing night, on Friday 30 May at 9:00 PM, will once again take place on the stage of the University’s Aula Magna (Building U6 “Agorà”, Milan, viale Piero e Alberto Pirelli 22) and feature Vasco Brondi. The singer-songwriter will take part in a talk that, through his music, will explore themes related to the environment, the human condition, and inner life. He will then perform a selection of his songs.
As in past editions, the spotlight will also be on the university’s own soloists and bands. Musicians and groups will compete in a contest at Centro Commerciale Sarca (via Milanesi 10, Sesto San Giovanni) on Saturday 17 May (4:00–7:00 PM). The winners will have the opportunity to perform at BiM Milan during the summer events. Chair of the jury will be singer and record producer Luca Jurman.
Also at Centro Sarca, on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May (4:30–6:00 PM), the “Piano in Centro” event will take place, a piano performance featuring music from the classical and film repertoire.
