The project
BRIDGE (Bicocca Research and Innovation for Development and Global Health) - Uganda is a university project based in the Gulu district of northern Uganda. The university outpost will offer students and trainees internship opportunities and a unique educational experience at Lacor Hospital, one of the largest non-profit healthcare hubs in equatorial Africa. Supported in Italy by the Fondazione Corti, the hospital plays a crucial role in the region by providing medical care to approximately 200,000 people annually, with over 30,000 admissions, and serving as a vital training centre in various health disciplines for both local and international universities.
The outpost is part of the Bicocca Global Health Center project, which brings together all of the university's expertise to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to address global health challenges through a multidisciplinary approach. The initiative aims to promote health and well-being in low- and middle-income countries.
The site
The BRIDGE - Uganda outpost is located in the building of the Comboni Missionary Sisters, one of the historical structures of Lacor Hospital. The building has been renovated to provide faculty, researchers, and students with a well-equipped space for study and scientific research activities, as outlined in the five-year agreement signed by the two institutions.
This is the second international outpost of the Milan-based university, following the MaRHE Center in the Maldives archipelago, a research and training centre dedicated to marine biology studies.
