Workshop "Sharks of the Maldives"

Registration is now open for the third edition of the workshop "Sharks of the Maldives: Introduction to Field-Based Research and Monitoring Techniques", which will be held from October 3 to 10, 2026, in the Maldives. The workshop will include a scientific diving cruise in the central atolls, organised by the MaRHE Centre of the University of Milano-Bicocca in collaboration with Shark Research Mexico and White Wave Maldives.

The workshop represents a unique opportunity to acquire theoretical and practical skills in shark studies by working directly in the field alongside expert researchers. Participants will be involved in monitoring and research activities, learning advanced techniques for species identification, behaviour analysis, data collection and management, and using innovative scientific tools. They will acquire ecology and conservation skills applicable to academia, conservation, and management.

The program includes lectures, practical sessions, data analysis, and fieldwork, including daily scuba dives on various Maldivian coral reefs.

The workshop is open to students (undergraduate, master's, or PhD), young researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts with a scuba certification and diving experience.

Registration closes June 26, 2026, and places are limited.
