The University of Milan-Bicocca together with 32 other Italian universities is participating in the fourth edition of the UNICORE - University corridors for Refugees project, promoted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and created to give to 69 refugees from Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria the opportunity to continue their academic career in Italy.

For the Academic Year 2022/2023, the University of Milano-Bicocca is offering two scholarships for enrolment in master’s degrees taught in English for a period of 30 months.

"We are happy to be able to announce this year’s expansion of the UNICORE project to refugees residing in Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria," said Chiara Cardoletti, UNHCR Representative for Italy, the Holy See and San Marino.

"Thanks to the commitment of Italian universities, 71 refugee students had already arrived in Italy in the first three years of the project and being able to double this number is truly an extraordinary result and an example for other European countries".

"The University of Milano-Bicocca joined the UNICORE Project in 2021, as part of a broader and more structured action to become more and more an Inclusive University, to contribute to the goal of the integration of refugee students, and to offer a concrete support for their education. UNIMIB has already defined actions to support refugee students; these actions have recently been strengthened, also in relation to the situation in Ukraine." declared the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Gabriella Pasi.

“The beneficiaries of the two scholarships will be followed, in particular in the first months of their Italian university life, by a mentor who will help them orient themselves in the University and discover the opportunities that the city of Milan offers" explained Prof. Silvia Mugnano, Focal Point of the project.

The call for application will close on 29 April 2022 and can be consulted on the UNICORE section of our portal and on the universitycorridors.unhcr.it website.
