team of students from the Law Department of the University of Milano-Bicocca achieved outstanding results in the national phase of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition. Among the 10 participating Italian universities, the Bicocca team secured second place, distinguishing itself for its excellence in the field of international law both in legal skills and in practical abilities such as writing memorials and oral advocacy.
The Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition is one of the most historical and prestigious university legal competitions globally with over 700 teams participating from around the world each year. It is a simulation of a case before the International Court of Justice of the United Nations, which addresses major issues of international law. This year, the competitors defended the interests of two Statestackling sensitive and contemporary topics such as the deprivation of nationality, the right to consular assistance and the investigative powers of the United Nations Security Council.
The Bicocca team, composed of students Riccardo Deho, Chaima El Attaoui, Valentina Falconi, Sara Maietti and Annachiara Mandaglio, displayed remarkable competence and dedication, winning numerous awards during the national rounds held at the University of Naples Federico II. In addition to the prestigious second place, the team received other awards such as the prize for the best written memorial, the prize for the best oralist of the championship round and other individual prizes.
The coaches of the Bicocca team, ex competitors Aldo de Cesare, Tommaso Gerardini and Sara Nocerino, together with Dr. Bernardo Mageste and other researchers and PhD students meaningfully contributed to the team’s success.
