Professor Piero Madau, a faculty member at the Department of Physics "Giuseppe Occhialini" of the University of Milano-Bicocca, has been appointed as a member of the National Academy of the Lincei, one of Italy’s most prestigious scientific institutions. The appointment is a significant recognition of his career and his notable contributions to the field of astrophysics.

Madau, renowned for his studies on galaxy formation and the evolution of the early universe, is among the most cited scientists globally in his field. His research has shed light on fundamental processes such as the distribution of dark matter on large scales and the ionization of intergalactic gas.  His induction into the Accademia dei Lincei reaffirms the academic excellence that defines the faculty of the University of Bicocca.

The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei was founded in 1603 by Federico Cesi and counted Galileo Galilei among its earliest members. The academy is housed within the Palazzo Corsini in Rome and has long served as a scientific advisor to Italy and the broader global community. Notable members of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei include Louis Pasteur, Albert Einstein, and Enrico Fermi. Giorgio Parisi, who was awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics, has served as President of the Academy.
