Bicocca and NUST Moscow join forces to train science managers
University of Milano – Bicocca
March 4th , 2020
A Management Training Academy for operators of Russian research infrastructures and a joint Executive MBA in Management of Research Infrastructures carried out in Russia. These are the two goals of the international cooperation framework agreement signed by the University of Milano-Bicocca with the National University of Science and Technology (MISIS) in Moscow for scientific and educational collaboration activities organised by the Department of Business and Law and coordinated by Professor Enrico Guarini.
The agreement was reached thanks to the European Horizon 2020 project named CremlinPlus (Connecting Russian and European Measures for Large-scale Research Infrastructures) financed by the European Commission for 25 million euros allocated to 35 European and Russian institutions and organizations (only two in Italy: Bicocca and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics), in order to develop five important “megascience” projects in the field of physics and collaboration activities with Russian research infrastructures. The total budget allocated to the University of Milano-Bicocca amounts to 1.168 million euros for the development of the Management Academy run by the Department of Business and Law and for research activities in the field of physics conducted by the “G. Occhialini” Physics Department.
According to the agreement, the University of Milano-Bicocca will support the development of the managerial skills of Russian research infrastructure scientists thanks to the expertise developed within the Horizon 2020 RItrain project and the Executive Master in Management of Research Infrastructures (EMMRI), an international Executive Master programme launched in 2017 and targeted at research infrastructure leaders aiming to leverage their professional experience while broadening general management knowledge and skills.
The collaboration will be developed through the Academy, the joint Executive Master’s in Russia, and through training initiatives, workshops, staff and knowledge exchanges with other European infrastructures, while also offering the opportunity to attend the EMMRI in Milan.
As a result, thanks to this project, a group of Russian physicists will participate in the EMMRI program in Milan and the University of Milano-Bicocca will support NUST MISIS to develop a Master’s degree to train science managers.
The agreement also encourages cooperation activities between the two universities in various scientific fields: from Materials Science to Nanotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science and Life Sciences.
