RIVA MICHELE AUGUSTO

I am Associate Professor of History of Medicine at the University of Milano Bicocca. I also work as occupational physician at San Gerardo Hospital in Monza and, currently, I am the Head of the Occupational Health Service of the University of Milano-Bicocca.

During my PhD I conducted research in the field of history of biostatistics and epidemiology, history of neuro-psychiatry and in the field of paleodemography and paleoepidemiology. From 2008 I was appointed as Scientific Secretary of the Research Centre on the History of Biomedical Thought (CESPEB, Centro Studio sulla Storia del Pensiero Biomedico) of the University of Milano-Bicocca. In the period 2009-2015, I was appointed as Chair of ICOH Scientific Committee on History of Prevention of Occupational and Environmental Diseases. I received a Service Award by ICOH in 2015. During my mandate as Chair of ICOH Scientific Committee on History, I co-organized several international conferences around the world on the history of Occupational Health (San Francisco, Rotterdam, Gothenburg, Cancun, Seoul).

I was Project leader of two projects, granted FENS, Federation of European Neurological Societies. I also won “Dr. Dimitrije Pivnicki Award in Neuro and Psychiatric History 2019” OF Osler Library, Montreal Canada. Currently, I am Scientific Coordinator of BRIC INAIL project “Italian physicians and scientists in ILO. Italy and the creation of a global system for health and safety at work (1919-1999). In 2015, I co-organized an exhibition on history of sanatorium of Sondalo (Italy, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan. Member of the Editorial Board of two international journals.
