Biography

Massimiliano Fantò is an anthropologist and PhD student in the interdisciplinary program of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Management at the University of Milano-Bicocca, working on a project titled Invasive Alien Species from a Socio-Cultural Perspective: Ethnographic Research on Human-Animal Interactions in the Mediterranean Area. Since his MA in Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, his research interests have included human-animal companionship, thanatopolitics in species eradication, and biological invasions. His current ethnographic work examines the spread of the blue crab (Portunus segnis) in the Kerkennah Islands (Tunisia), exploring how ecological disruptions intertwine with local narratives and imperial legacies through the lens of anthropology of human-animal relations, animal geographies, and the anthropology of science.
