Biography

Lucia Luzi is senior researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia and the Director of the Milano section of INGV. She received her Bsc (1991) in Earth Science at the University of Camerino and her MSc (1995) at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation of the University of Twente. Since 1998 she worked for the national research council (CNR) at the Istituto di Ricerca sul Rischio Sismico and since 2001 for the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia.

The main research interests of Lucia Luzi are strong-motion seismology, the evaluation of seismic site effects and the prediction of strong ground-motion parameters for seismic design.

She has been coordinating the ITalian ACcelerometric Archive (ITACA) and the Engineering Strong-Motion database (ESM). She was involved in several coordination activities within INGV project funded by the Department of Civil Protection and in European projects (e.g. NERIES, SERA, EPOS) in the coordination of strong motion seismology and networks in Europe. She has been interim Secretary General of ORFEUS (Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology) and has been chair of the Strong-Motion Service Management Committee of ORFEUS for the construction of a European infrastructure for the distribution of strong motion data.

She has been involved in the microzonation studies after the Umbria-Marche (1997-98) L’Aquila (2009) and Central Italy (2016) seismic sequences. Since 2020 she is professor of Applied seismology at University of Milano Bicocca. She also served as consultant on strong grond-motion assessment for private companies.

She is the co-author of more than 90 scientific papers in International journals.
