The event titled "Law of Armed Conflicts and International Red Cross" will take place on Wednesday, 18 December 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Central Headquarters of the University Library (Building U6 Agorà, Piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo 1, Milan). This event marks the inauguration of the exhibition "Il Diritto Internazionale Umanitario in pillole: anche le guerre hanno delle regole" which will be open to visitors until 31 January 2025.

The inauguration will feature contributions from:

  • Giorgio Battisti, President of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in Sanremo
  • Marzia Como, National Technical Delegate for Principles and Humanitarian Values of the Italian Red Cross
  • Barbara di Castri, Councillor and Delegate for Principles and Values of the Milan Red Cross
  • Matteo Fornari, Associate professor in International Law at the University of Milano-Bicocca

Additionally, director and playwright Renato Sarti (Teatro della Cooperativa) will perform excerpts from his play "Gorla fermata Gorla," a work that underscores the value of peace by recounting one of the most harrowing episodes of the Second World War.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness about the importance of respecting human dignity even in wartime contexts. Through various panels, it delves into specific themes such as the protection of civilians and cultural property, the treatment of prisoners of war, and the protective function of the Red Cross emblem. The photographs displayed were taken in numerous war zones where the International Committee of the Red Cross operates.
