Modern society is increasingly characterised by digital communication and its continuous growth. Against this background, there is a clear need to innovate in data processing technologies by promoting those that achieve process acceleration while reducing energy costs. Hexagonal phase germanium has special properties that would make it possible to switch to digital communications using photons instead of electrons, thereby increasing speed.
Several research groups around the world are focused on trying to realise hexagonal phase germanium crystals and have decided to collaborate and combine their efforts for a deeper and more effective understanding by meeting annually for joint work, open to other researchers and interested students in the form of workshops. This year, our University will host this meeting.
