Biography

I am currently an Associate Professor in psychometrics (Psic-01c; ex M-PSI / 03) at the Department of Psychology of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

My background and research interests are combined in a mix that includes neuropsychology, psychometrics, methodological rigour, open science culture and advanced data analysis techniques.

I obtained the PhD in Experimental Psychology, Linguistics and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Milan-Bicocca in January 2014 with a thesis entitled "Body representation shapes the responses to threatening stimuli" (Advisor: Prof. Angelo Maravita) focused on the interaction between body representation and pain processing. In the laboratory of prof Maravita, I also carried out the main activities as a post-doc. Although my primary affiliation has always been Bicocca, I have had multiple periods as visiting researcher at important international institutions: EPFL of Lausanne (2012), Birckbeck University of London (2017), Campus Biomedico University of Rome (2017), UCL of Brussels ( 2018).

In 2019, I won an important grant offered by the Fondazione con il Sud for a project across psychometry and neuropsychology called "Dementia Network".

In 2023, I was awarded a PRIN grant as PI for a project using advanced statistical models to study personality changes related to healthy and pathological aging.

I have also received several individual awards, including a travel award from the Japan Neuroscience Society (2014), a study visit grant from the Experimental Psychology Society (2017) and the first prize for the Giovani Talenti award (2017).

Research

I currently have multiple research interests:

  • The use of machine learning in neuropsychology
  • Body representation, from a psychometric perspective
  • The measurement of personality traits according to the HEXACO six-factor model, based on the use of adjectives
  • Advanced measurement of cognitive functions
  • The use of Bayesian statistics in psychology
