Biography

Dr. Gerussi is Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology at the University of Milan-Bicocca and Honorary Consultant Hepatologist at the Division of Gastroenterology of the IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori Foundation. He conducts research and clinical activities at the Center for Autoimmune Liver Diseases of the University of Milan-Bicocca. He graduated and specialized in Internal Medicine in Udine, continued his hepatological training in the United Kingdom at the Royal Free Hospital in London, with a particular interest in the management of Autoimmune Hepatitis, and at the Center for Autoimmune Liver Diseases of the University of Milan-Bicocca, with a focus on Primary Biliary Cholangitis. He obtained a PhD in Translational and Molecular Medicine from the University of Milan-Bicocca, focusing on the genetic determinants of autoimmune liver diseases and autoimmunity, with a special interest in the applications of new artificial intelligence techniques and ancient DNA. He coordinates the working group on Primary Biliary Cholangitis and Overlap Syndromes of the European network ERN-RARE LIVER.

His research is focused on the application of new artificial intelligence techniques in the field of precision medicine for autoimmune liver diseases. He has received prestigious research grants from the Accademia dei Lincei (Young Talents Award), Italian Ministry of University and Research (PRIN), Italian Association for the Study of the Liver (AISF), European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI). He is Associate Editor of Immunologic Research and has authored over 60 scientific articles.
