The Master’s Degree in Industrial Biotechnologies belongs to the Class of Master Courses in Industrial Biotechnologies (LM-8), has a duration of two years, yields 120 ECTS (CFU) and awards the Master Degree in Industrial Biotechnologies.

For the award of the Degree 10 examination must be passed, yielding 74 ECTS. The remaining credits will be acquired through other training activities such as internships, traineeships, attendance at seminars and the final exam (Thesis defence). Generally, all the
examinations are scheduled during the first year. An admission test should be passed in order to enter the Course in Industrial Biotechnologies, despite no student number restrictions do apply. The test is focussed on basic background in general and organic
chemistry, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, genetics related to industrial biotechnologies.

Some classes may be taught in English.

The University of Milano - Bicocca and the Université Paris Diderot VII share a joint study program awarding a double degree to selected students: the Master’s Degree in Industrial Biotechnologies and Master de Genetique.
The Master’s Degree give access to Second Level Masters, PhD, Specialization Schools.
The Master’s Degree in Industrial Biotechnologies allows the enrollment in section A of the National Order of Biologists, after passing the State Exam.
The course of study aims to provide a solid cultural and methodological preparation in the Biological and Chemical disciplines as well as a broad knowledge of the biotechnological platforms and their applications.
The professional profiles envisaged fall within the ISTAT 2.3.1 Classes - Specialists in Life Sciences and 2.6.2- Graduate Researchers and Technicians and may find employment as:

  • Director of Production Facilities
  • Head of Research and Development  Laboratories
  • Researcher
  • Responsible of biological waste disposal and purification plants
  • Consultant in development and control activities
  • Responsible for the development of processes and products with customers.

In the last three years, 80 % of students were regularly awarded the degree, compared to the 60% national rating. 80% of master graduated students from Milano - Bicocca are employed within 3 years since the Degree (MIUR data)
